New Health Officer Joins CCHD
New Health Officer Hits the Ground Running
The Cascade County Board of Health has chosen Alicia M. Thompson, MSW as the new Health Officer and Executive Director for the City-County Health Department and Community Health Care Center. Thompson officially started with CCHD on Monday, May 4th.
“With her education, experience and her enthusiasm, she is sure to be a valuable contribution to our community,” says Dr. Johnson, Chair of the Board of Health, about the new leader. Thompson joins CCHD after serving as the Deputy Director of Communicable Disease and Community Health at the Cowlitz County Health Department in Longview, Washington. She has worked in public health since 1998. Prior to her tenure in Cowlitz County, Thompson was a Community Health Assessment Epidemiologist for the Spokane Regional Health District in Washington State.
“I am very excited to have been chosen for this position! I am passionate about Public Health and view my service to the community as a great honor”, says the new Health Officer/Executive Director. Thompson’s arrival is timely with the current public health concern of the H1N1 strain of influenza.
The Cascade City-County Health Department has essentially been operating without a Health Officer/Executive Director since the departure of Allene Mares in October, 2008.
