St. Patrick’s Day Safety!

Greetings! St. Patrick’s Day is this coming Sunday, March 17, and we want to share some fun facts and safety tips in honor of one of the most popular drinking holidays in the US!

  1. Designate a driver! This one is obvious. Friends don’t let friends drink and drive, and they don’t let each other rely on the luck of the Irish either. Designate a sober driver, call a cab, or request an Uber!
  2. Eat a real meal and stay hydrated. Drink lots of water—according to the American Heart Association, this helps keep your heart and other muscles functioning properly!
  3. Use the buddy system. Always be aware of your surroundings and stay with a group. According to UC Santa Cruz, good friends help you stick to your limits and keep you out of trouble if you start to lose your ability to make good decisions. Do the same for your friends!
  4. Don’t leave drinks unattended—especially you, ladies! Keep an eye on your drink for your own safety, even if it’s just soda or juice. A drink that has been spiked will taste the same as a regular one, no matter what kind of drink it is! If it’s been out of your sight, throw it away and get a new one.

Montana has one of the highest rates in the nation for crash deaths caused by impaired drivers. 61% of Montana’s roadway fatalities in 2017 were caused by impaired driving!

This St. Patty’s Day, don’t be a statistic; have fun and make a plan to get home safely when you’re done.
